Of noble descent, Rodolfo Fredi moved to Rome in 1879 to pursue his violin studies and soon became interested in violin making. He used numerous models, of which Stradivari is the most common and perhaps the most successful. Fredi’s work is careful and diligent, with special attention reserved for his greater instruments, which bear an oil-based varnish and possess very good tonal qualities
