Ferdinando Gagliano
Violin maker
(1738 – 1804)
One of Nicolò Gagliano’s four violin making sons, Ferdinando Gagliano probably studied primarily with his uncle Gennaro, and worked independently of other members of his family. While his choice of materials is often uninspired, occasionally his work displays exceptional craftsmanship coupled with superior wood.
Only recently has credible biographical information concerning the violin makers of the Neapolitan school come to light. Until the experts who have researched this material publish their archival findings, we leave the birth and death dates of these makers as previously accepted.
