Herbert WANKA, born 1938, learned the craft of bow making between 1952 and 1955 in the Lehrwerkstatt für Musikinstrumentenbau (workshop for apprentices in instrument making) in Bubenreuth under the direction of Emanuel Schuster.

After completing the program there, he worked for a number of years as a journeyman in Gotthard Schuster´s well respected Bubenreuth bow making workshop.

1968 he did his master examination in bow making under the auspices of the chamber of trade Nuremberg.

Stylistically influenced by his long-term Master Gotthard Schuster as well as the classical French Models of Sartory and Lamy, he makes his bows after his personal model ideal, which he has basically never changed over the years.
