Born in Vienna, Austria. Studied making under his father, Ignaz Sr. and also worked for him. Worked in several European cities before moving to the United States. Owned the &#8220;Ehrlich&#8221; Strad violin, dated 1724, which he used as his violin model. Red-brown varnish on a golden ground, some shades. Fine workmanship. Charged $250 for a violin in the mid-1920s.
