Herbert WANKA, born 1938, learned the craft of bow making between 1952 and 1955 in the Lehrwerkstatt f\u00fcr Musikinstrumentenbau (workshop for apprentices in instrument making) in Bubenreuth under the direction of Emanuel Schuster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After completing the program there, he worked for a number of years as a journeyman in Gotthard Schuster\u00b4s well respected Bubenreuth bow making workshop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1968 he did his master examination in bow making under the auspices of the chamber of trade Nuremberg. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

1971 he opened his own workshop in Bubenreuth. 1977 he moved the workshop to Baiersdorf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stylistically influenced by his long-term Master Gotthard Schuster as well as the classical French Models of Sartory and Lamy, he makes his bows after his personal model ideal, which he has basically never changed over the years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today Herbert Wanka looks back at an over 50-year-old experience in bow making. The high acceptance of his bows by musicians in Germany and abroad reflects the valuation of his work again.
