Louis Charles Courtier, Violin maker (b. 1878)

Biography

Career

Louis COURTIER served his apprenticeship in Mirecourt under Joseph. AUBRY.

He then established his own workshop on 14 Rue Estivant at Mirecourt.

Works

His personal production, made generally in a spirit copy, is coated with a rich red-brown varnish shading away on a golden ground. His Guarneri copies are particularly attractive.

Aside from his personal instruments made after Stradivari and Guarneri del Gesu,  a considerable part of the instruments bearing Louis COURTIER labels were made by the main Mirecourt workshops of his time.
